Teaching Quality

Choose Glamorgan and you’ll be guaranteed a first class education. All of our courses are designed to give you the best possible learning experience by being approved by industry and influenced by cutting edge research. You will be taught by academics who are passionate about what they do, which reflects in the quality of their teaching. You’ll also get some added extras, like guest speakers and ‘live’ projects to make learning even more engaging and relevant to the real world.

Here are just some of the reasons why our teaching quality is second to none.

Not just teaching

Our lecturers don’t just teach – they also practise their various areas of expertise. Depending on what subject you choose to study, you could be taught by renowned writers, film-makers, scientists or engineers. For example, our team of creative writing lecturers are all published, prize-winning authors and poets – Professor Philip Gross is a winner of the internationally renowned TS Eliot poetry prize.

Visiting experts

It’s not just our staff that make our teaching top quality. As part of your learning experience, you’ll get guest lectures from visiting speakers who are at the top of their game. We’ve recently had everyone from John Hurt to The Apprentice’s Ruth Badger sharing their knowledge and expertise with our students.

Real life learning

Our teaching is always up-to-date. We collaborate with industry on research projects, so we’ve got a good grip on what’s going on the real world. This first-hand knowledge and industry expertise make your course relevant for the modern workplace. You’ll be taught by the people who are working on everything from world-changing renewable energy initiatives to bringing light to rural Zambia, Welsh identity and Dr Who to cyber crime. What’s more, the research they’re involved in is recognised across the globe – in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise over 70% of research activity was judged to be of international significance.

Industry approved

If you need solid proof of our teaching quality, just ask the employers. Lots of our courses are accredited by professional bodies and associations – evidence that teaching at Glamorgan meets the high standards of the relevant industries and gives graduates precisely the quality of skills and depth of knowledge that the workplace needs. Some bodies – like the Chartered Institute of Marketing, British Psychology Society, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the British Computer Society – recognise a Glamorgan degree as exemption from professional exams. So not only will you graduate from Glamorgan with a degree, you’ll also be one step towards becoming professionally qualified.
