Life at Glamorgan
Where is the University of Glamorgan?
The University of Glamorgan is situated in South Wales, which is in the Western half of the United Kingdom. The University has campuses in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, and Pontypridd, which is 12 miles north of Cardiff.
Campuses
The University has three campuses. The Treforest and Glyntaff campuses are both based in Pontypridd and are a short 10 minute walk apart. A 20-minute train journey from the Treforest campus is ATRiuM, situated in the cosmopolitan city centre of Cardiff.
The subject you study will determine the campus where you will be based. Unlike other universities, we do not expect you to travel between each campus – all of your lectures, tutorials and teaching will take place in the same place.
Where will I study?
Treforest
Treforest campus in Pontypridd is home to the Faculty of Business and Society and the Faculty of Advanced Technology.
This is largest of the three campuses and is set in the rolling hills of the Welsh countryside, Treforest is a modern campus with a strong history in the local area. With a relaxed atmosphere, this is a perfect place to study and socialise. It has a new Students’ Union building, halls of residence and is close to the bars and shops of Pontypridd. If you like the outdoor life, you are close to parks, mountains and the sea.
Glyntaff
If you are studying a subject within the Faculty of Health, Sport and Science, you will study at Glyntaff campus in Pontypridd.
On the campus you will find a students’ union shop and various food outlets. Facilities here include the ‘scenes of crime’ house, state-of-the-art science laboratories and the Clinical Simulation Suite for health sciences students.
ATRiuM
Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries is based in the city centre of Cardiff at ATRiuM. It’s a multi-million pound purpose built facility with studios, darkrooms and practice rooms. The on-campus Students’ Union and cafe will keep you going during a long day in the studio.
Cardiff is Wales’ capital city and offers countless bars, shops, restaurants and coffee shops as well as lots of cultural experiences. Cardiff Castle takes up centre position, surrounded by the beautiful Bute Park, Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Museum and smaller galleries and theatres.
Investment and Developments
The University is investing over £130million in its facilities across all three campuses to ensure students get the best possible learning experience. This exciting programme of developments will see a radical change in student facilities across the University.
