Life at Glamorgan

Sporting Life

Our Centre for Sport, Health and Exercise has an excellent reputation for the quality of its facilities, which are some of the finest of any university. But don’t just take our word for it, we have Quest Accreditation for the centre, which is the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure and the only sport ‘chartermark’ recognised by all four Sports Councils. Located in our Treforest campus next to the Union, the centre offers a wide range of activities for all students.

Our facilities are used regularly by many professional teams including the Wales national football squad, Cardiff City FC, Cardiff Blues Rugby Academy and touring rugby sides from South Africa and New Zealand. The Scottish football international, Steve Thompson, praised the facilities after his move from Rangers to Cardiff City: ‘the pitches at University of Glamorgan, Treforest are exceptionally good…Treforest is such an important place for the team’.

The university has achieved outstanding sporting success in recent years, nurturing students in karate, rugby, football, golf, hockey and basketball who have gone on to gain success at national and international level.
