What is this?

If you don’t quite have the right qualifications to start a three year degree immediately or if you want to gain more confidence in higher level work, you can enter one of our foundation level programmes. Successful completion of a foundation programme gives automatic progression to Year 1 of an appropriate HND or degree. Our programmes are offered as an integral part of an HND or degree scheme.

What can I study?

Foundation Studies programmes are very flexible. The individual
programmes allow you to prepare for a specific degree/HND course. Alternatively for those who have not decided on a particular course, the Combined Honours foundation programme provides an excellent first step into Higher Education.

The Foundation Programmes

You can choose programmes from within different faculties of the University. Some of the faculties run more than one foundation programme.

Faculty of Health, Sport and Science

Faculty of Advanced Technology

Combined Honours

If you wish to use the foundation year as a taster year while you decide which subject interests you most, you can enter the Combined Honours Foundation Year.

When can I study?

The University teaching year runs from late September to June. During the course of the year you will study a range of subjects or modules. All students on the foundation programmes study a number of compulsory subjects in learning strategies, quantitative methods and computing. The remaining modules will depend on the degree you wish to follow in the future.

Qualifications

There is no such thing as typical student and all applications are considered on individual merit. We will look for evidence of proficiency in both literacy and numeracy.

Information Sessions

Make the first step towards your future and come along to our next Information Session: Monday 8th September 2008, sessions start at 2pm or 5pm.
