What is this?
Introduced in September 2001 as an alternative to undergraduate degrees and HNDs, Foundation Degrees are new, fully-fledged degrees that entail much more hands-on work experience and develop practical skills for a fast-track to a great career.
The qualification offers a practical solution to the “work or study?” dilemma by combining the two so that graduates get the skills employers are looking for.
It is awarded by the university using the same rigorous procedures as any other degree and provides the entry requirements you will need should you wish to progress to an honours degree.
Thanks to extensive experience developing courses that boost employment prospects and a proven track record of innovation in vocational, skills-based education, the University of Glamorgan has led the way in developing this model and was the first university in Wales to offer the qualification.
Because your work counts toward your degree, you can even earn while you learn.
Students will gain an FDA (Arts) or an FDSc (Science) in the particular subject(s) studied.
What can I study?
- Coaching, Tutoring and Mentoring [Subject to validation]
- Computing [At Glamorgan and other Colleges]

How is it assessed?
Performance is assessed by continual assessment, assignments and exams.
