At Glamorgan, we offer a range of Major/Minor and Joint degrees, so if you don’t want to study just one subject, you can combine the subjects that interest you. For even more flexibility, the Combined Honours programme lets you take modules from subject areas right across the University, so you can design your own degree.
BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Subject A with Subject B
Major/Minor Honours degrees are for students who want to study two subject areas, with more time spent studying one (the Major) than the other (the Minor). The two subjects are linked by ‘with’ in the title of the award.
A Major/Minor degree comprises 80 credit (usually four modules) in the Major subject and 40 credits (usually two modules) in the Minor subject, in years two and three of the course.
If the Major element of your award is Arts-based (eg, Humanities, Social Sciences or Business, you will be awarded a BA. If the Major element is a Science (eg, Mathematics, Forensic Science, Physical Geography, Technology or their applications) you will get a BSc. It will appear as ‘BA (Hons) Subject A with subject B’, eg, BA (Hons) History with Sociology, or ‘BSc (Hons) Subject A with Subject B’, eg, BSc (Hons) Forensic Science with Criminology.
Some Major awards have professional body accreditation. For example, a Major in Law would qualify you for an LLB, and a Major in Psychology would give you the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society.
BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Subject
A and Subject B
Joint Honours degrees are for students who want to study two subject areas equally.
A Joint degree comprises 60 credits (usually three modules) in each subject in years two and three of the course. The title of the award will contain both subjects linked by ‘and’. If both subjects are based in the Arts, you will get a BA (Hons). If both parts are in the Sciences, you will get a BSc (Hons). If you have one of each, the Science-based subject will appear first and you will graduate with a BSc (Hons). The final award will read as either ‘BA (Hons) Subject A and Subject B’, eg, BA (Hons) English and History, or ‘BSc (Hons) Subject A and Subject B’, eg, BSc (Hons) Criminology and Forensic Science.
