10 Reasons to Love Glamorgan

10 Reasons to Love Glamorgan

Ashley Price, Glamorgan’s new Students’ Union President, loves Glamorgan…and here’s why!

Friendly
An oldie but a goodie and very important if you’re away from home for the first time. Our campuses are small so they give a sense of community that you wouldn’t get in a large urban campus. You could literally get to know everyone which is something you don’t get with larger city based Universities!

Cardiff on your doorstep
We’re only twenty minutes by car or train to the modern student-friendly city of Cardiff which means when you want to change your outlook, you can! Unless, of course, you study at the Atrium, then you’re already there.

The Students’ Union
It’s not just a watering hole anymore. The new Union in Treforest boasts a beauty salon, hairdressers, letting agency and support offices. Don’t worry though, you can still have a drink and dance if that’s what you’re after. If you’re in Cardiff, you can pop into the Atrium SU before hitting town.

Low cost of living
Glamorgan has one of the lowest costs of living for any student in the UK, with cheap eating, drinking, travel and socialising. Rent averages £50 a week. Check out the Students’ Union website to see the kind of activities on offer.

New halls of residence
Further student-focused spending has seen the opening of the brand-spanking-new halls of residence on the Treforest campus, which provides new students with and top quality accommodation.

Specialised campuses
All three campuses are built to focus on specific areas of education. Treforest, the original home of the University, houses law, business, social sciences and University’s Aircraft Maintenance Centre. ATRiuM, in Cardiff, houses all the creative arts – journalism, music and design – while Glyntaff, which has benefited from a huge £10 million investment, specialises in health sciences, such as geography, chemistry, forensic science and nursing. It really helps when making friends, and, again it’s easy to find your way around.

Fantastic sports facilities
The construction of a new state-of-the-art Glamorgan Sports Park has further enhanced the fantastic sport facilities available at the University. The facilities are so good that they are frequently used by the likes of Wales, Cardiff City FC, as well as the touring New Zealand and South Africa rugby teams.

Opportunities
It’s easy to get involved in various out-of-classroom activities which can boost your social circle, your CV and even your bank balance! The Student Council, the democratic and decision making body of the Union, is a great place to make a difference, or you could become a Course Rep or Student Voice Rep. You can also apply to be a student ambassador and get paid to help out at open days and UCAS fairs.

Easy access to the UK and the rest of Europe
We’re really easy to reach, wherever you – or your friends and parents – are coming from. And that works in reverse too: Glamorgan is a great base for exploring other parts of Wales, Bristol and, with the introduction of cheap flights from Cardiff International Airport, even further afield.

Quality and student focus
All the development over the past few years has shown the University’s commitment to improving the student experience. Tie this in with the fantastic quality of learning and teaching and our 93% graduate employment rates and you can see why we love Glamorgan!
